Having been part of the Shopify story since 2006, it’s hard at times for us to comprehend the rapid growth of the Shopify ecosystem.
When looking at Google search trends, it’s interesting to see the crossover of Shopify vs. Magento in 2017—with Shopify continuing to climb and Magento steadily trending downwards.
What’s also rather interesting is that BigCommerce barely even features compared with the other three major platforms.
Looking at the searches by region, it’s clear there are huge opportunities for growth outside of the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa—where Shopify appears to be dominating. Looking at this, it becomes apparent why Shopify is now looking to focus their efforts on non-English-speaking regions of the world.
